I am a Psychiatrist and MD in New York City

Proudly serving the people of New York.

I’m Dr. Ruth Cohen, M.D.

This past year has been a challenging one. Many of us have struggled with feeling isolated and disconnected. As an experienced psychiatrist with a client-focused approach, it is my job to listen and support you through psychotherapy and medication management when needed.

I have worked in private practice for over 40 years. I am also on the staff of New York Hospital and Hospital for Special Surgery. As a lifetime New Yorker with a medical degree from NYU Medical School, my training has been at Montefiore Hospital where I became Chief Resident and then I completed a fellowship in consultation psychiatry.

I pride myself on treating patients of all ages and backgrounds. I am happy to do telephone, video and in office consultations. I look forward to hearing from you and to assessing your mental health and medication needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here’s a preview of some of my most frequently asked questions. You can click below to visit my FAQ page and see the full list of questions.

I am currently accepting private pay. I do not bill insurance directly, however it is likely you can submit your proof of payment to your insurance provider as an out-of-network appointment for reimbursement. I do recommend confirming with your insurance provider ahead of time.

For Medicare patients, I will submit as required after payment so you can be reimbursed directly for your session(s).

Please bring a list of your current medications and what they help treat. Additionally, our first appointment will involve talking about your goals and needs and how therapy and/or medication can help.
